A Very Merry Happy Day

There are still kind people in this world. They may be few and far between but they exist, and they make your day a thousand times better when you encounter one. Today one little old man managed to make my day and even though he will probably never read this, I want to say: Thank You. Your kindness no matter how small has been greatly appreciated.
So you are probably wondering what this man did to make me so happy. No, it wasn't any big grand gesture of overwhelming kindness, it was small and simple. Today when going out for lunch with a few friends we were seated and given our menu's by said kind man. He joked and was generally just a happy man. When ordering our food (we were all splitting one entree because we are broke) I ordered a soda while my friends just kept to water. Upon bringing me my soda he looks at me and then looks at my friends and says: "Now I didn't charge her for her soda so if you guys want a soda too its on me." Shocked, my two friends decided to take him up on the offer. Free drinks when you're broke... who would turn that down. We all order Shirley temples  When bringing back more soda's we order our meal and a dessert to share. He disappears into the kitchen to place our orders.
Once again he comes out and approaches our table. I notice he is holding something behind his back. After asking how we are doing, he pulls out a small bowl of hard candies and offers them to us. We all reach in and take one. Being a sweet old man he says: "Now now take more than that. I bought these at Costco. You know how much they give you there take some more." Grateful and again a little shocked we each take some more. Later he has brought our food and we have thoroughly and rather quickly enjoyed our small meal. We had been discussing how we were going to pay for everything and already had tip money laid out on the table when he returned with the bill. Yet again he shocks and amazes us when he says "don't leave me a tip girls. I was in high-school once. I know you are not made of money. Let these other people tip me you girls just have a nice day." Shocked and amazed at this mans endless kindness and generosity we state that we cannot just not leave a tip. When he walks away we scramble for a pen and to our dismay could not find one. So using liquid eye-liner we scribble on a napkin: Too nice to not tip, and left a rather large tip lying on the table. Leaving quickly before he could protest I spent the rest of the day thinking about this nice old man. So now it is my personal goal to return this generosity in some way. I will find someway to continue a chain of good deeds and I hope all you who read this will be inspired by this mans kindness as well and help create just a little goodness in the world. Do your part and keep the chain going and maybe one day that man may stumble upon one silly insignificant blog and realize how much his simple act of kindness has done. So whatever your name was  the world wants to give you a hug and a big Thank You!

  2. Aww Sadie! That's really cute. It's really cool that you got to have an experience like that and I hope one of these days you'll take me with you to lunch (Ahem!) so I can meet this very famous man!
